This has been the worst 2 weeks of school holidays we have seen in years – very slow. Where are all the guests gone ? We are not seasonal here & usually the school hols period is all go. How is everyone else going ?

We are not a holiday destination so therefore we are not seasonal here either, but we have slowed noticeably over the past 2 years and is quite drastic. The weather was horrid, cold and wet.
The whole industry seems to be in a slump. We had a rep drop in yesterday and he said he has been to 95% of his territory and hasn’t sold one thing. The linen company is only coming a couple of times a week because again, all the motels are suffering. They are only going out of town once a week instead of the 3 times due to the lack of dirty linen.
The progressive council is allowing yet another 3 accommodation providers to built here in a place that is already over saturated with beds that can’t be filled. Last year even our so called “busy periods” not all the beds were filled.
If anyone has any ideas on how to increase business I am sure we would all love to know.

Yes CVM we have had some bad wintery weather but not as bad as some other years. All the motels here have said the same thing – ie that it has been the worst ever slow period on record. In saying all that this week has picked up a lot

Dear Robguy27, In the first two weeks of July, we had sales of less than 30% f July 2012. I am happy the school holidays are over, as a lot o our regular corporate trade avoid the holidays.
We are seasonal here, also on the South Coast, with June, July and August , the slow months, so we are about half way through the drought.
We are in our 14th year, and still find it hard to adapt to the slow times.
On a positive note, we need a winter, to get a spring and summer.

Sorry to hear of the slow down for you robguy27.
Our last 2 years have been very similar and we have not noticed a slow down that much at this time of year.

What was your weather like over the holidays? Did other motels near by also have the slowdown?
